We Wait

2:33 PM Posted by Linda Henson , , , , , ,
A group of people stood on the sidewalk with their umbrellas unfolded. The night was dark and the rain was unstoppable, but they waited for the news. Was it a boy? A girl? Would it be triplets?Twins? Only one? What would the name be? George? Mary? Fredrick Morrison Weathersymth the third?
They spoke in low whispers as if a holy event was about occur. Suddenly someone shouted, "Hey!
We're on the wrong street!

War?

I see these bumpers stickers that say, "Give peace a chance" and "Make love not war." I saw one that said, "Make tea not war." Who are these bumper stickers for? The huge majority of people who read them don't want war. Even the bad guys don't want war. They want to take your land, your rights and your way of life. Give it to them and you'll have peace. What kind of peace is that? At any moment, the troops can swoop down and grab your processions, your family, or you. Possible all three.
War is always horrible. Sometimes it's necessary. To free the oppressed. To keep your freedom. There's that old saying, "Freedom isn't free." Oppression isn't free either. Everything cost something.
I guess what it comes down to is this, what are you willing to live with?

SALE!!!!

10:00 AM Posted by Linda Henson , , , , , , , , ,
My grandfather used to tell a story about people in this one store grabbing cans and cans of soup. He was laughing. You see, the soup was on sale(this was a ton of years ago.) ten cans for a dollar.  The people wanted the deal before it ended. Thing is, the soup was normally ten cents a can. Or ten cans for a dollar. The lesson, a sale is not always a deal. Just because a store is having a clearance sale, doesn't mean you can't get a better deal elsewhere. Happy shopping, people.

I heard someone say, "Even when I 'm the only one in the room, it's still one too many people."

New Year?

10:00 AM Posted by Linda Henson , , , , , , , ,
It is a new year. Again. Didn't we just get a new year? In fact we have been getting a new year for as long as I can remember. It is always the same. We get a new year, all shiny and bright. Champagne bottles pop. Fireworks explode. People kiss. We are all excited. Then, around April, the newness fades a little. As time moves on the year looks used. And after a while we are ready for a new one. I say, let us treat this year better than than the others. If we are careful, maybe this year will last a little longer than the last. Happy New Year!

Impact

5:26 PM Posted by Linda Henson , , , , , , , , ,
I recently heard a public service announcement that featured a walker talking to drivers. It is an effort to make people be better drivers. She says something like, "I will watch out for you and you watch for me. When you see me stop. If we work together, imagine the impact we will have. Hum. I thought the idea was to avoid an impact.

MLK

How can a speech given more than five decades ago still move people to tears. Some words live forever and people who never heard the original speech know it and can quote from it and their hearts can be stirred by it years after the speechmaker has been buried. "I have a dream." Martin Luther King said. "That one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of it's creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal...that sons of former of salves and the sons of former salve owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood...the heat of oppression will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice...they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character...little black boys and little black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and little white girls as sister and brothers...Let freedom ring...Free at last, free at last. Thank God almighty we are free at last.
We have come a long way toward that dream. Let's not let anyone try to crush it. Let the dream live on.

BILLIONS!!

10:00 AM Posted by Linda Henson , , , , , , , ,
There are billions and billions of people on earth and we each have our own fingerprint that matches no one else. And, aside from identical twins, no one has our DNA. Each of us have our own personal voiceprint and retina.  These are used to show our own special identity. No one can have exactly what we have. Yet, with the billions and billions of people we have only four blood types. Only four. I think it is miraculous. We can share our blood with others that cannot match us in other way. Without harming ourselves, we can give blood to save lives. It's a happy thought.

Get Out Of My Way

10:00 AM Posted by Linda Henson , , , , , ,
Sometimes I think about getting a twitter account so I can tell people when I am coming.  I want people to stay home, remain at work, stay in the store. Don't get behind me, in front of me or come toward me. Just get out of my way.  Or would that be rude?
