War?

  I see these bumpers stickers that say, "Give peace a chance" and "Make love not war." I saw one that said, "Make tea not war." Who are these bumper stickers for? The huge majority of people who read them don't want war. Even the bad guys don't want war. They want to take your land, your rights and your way of life. Give it to them and you'll have peace. What kind of peace is that? At any moment, the troops can swoop down and grab your processions, your family, or you. Possible all three.
  War is always horrible. Sometimes it's necessary. To free the oppressed. To keep your freedom. There's that old saying, "Freedom isn't free." Oppression isn't free either. Everything cost something.
I guess what it comes down to is this, what are you willing to live with?

Coo Coo

Last year I took my break at the outside table. When I sat down I heard a coo. Not a soft coo, but a hard coo. Like the pigeon was saying, get off my cloud!!! Every day when I took my break, he was there, giving me the evil eye. I wouldn't budge. I had a right to be there and there I would be. When the weather turned cold I took my break inside. This year when the weather warmed up again I went back out and he was there. The fight was on. So be it. I will not be moved. I would win this.The next day I was ready to stand my ground, but he didn't coo. He wasn't alone. He had a girlfriend. He was sharing his space. Hostilities had ceased. Armistice had been declared. Peace was at hand. I'm going miss our little tussle, but I am always glad when someone finds love. It makes the world a better place. Bye.

Great Idea

I recently heard a woman talked about fighting with her kids because they wanted soda or t. v. on a school night. Then one day she had an idea. She made coupons. She gave her kids twelve coupons that let stay up an extra hour. There were coupons for sodas and coupons for an hour of television on a school night. She gave them as stocking stuffers. The kids loved it. They felt they had some control of their lives and they learned to budget. There was peace in the home. It might be worth a try.

I saw a bumper sticker that read, "Another woman for peace." Another woman for peace?  Like the rest of us aren't. I wanted to get a sticker that read Another woman for war. Another woman for poverty. Tooth decay.
 Another woman for peace. Does she think we're all arming up to invade Canada? Keep your powder dry, people.

Relax

Some days are made for not thinking. This is one of them. It is warm. My brain is slow.
I am tired. A day like this is when you put down the smartphone or iPod or whatever keeps your attention. Find a place to just sit and put up your feet. Rediscover birds and sunsets. Hum a tune. Don't think. Just enjoy the peace of doing nothing. Which I will do as soon as I find the time.
