He: My son just got a job as a night stalker.

Me: Night stalker!? That's a job now!? What? Is he going to get a paid vacation? Medical
leave? Bonuses? Holiday pay? What is this world coming to?

He: No. He's a night stocker

  Me: Oh.

Never hurry

5:49 PM Posted by Linda Henson , ,
I thought I would write a quick post, just so you know I'm still alive. I have less than five minutes. I know better than to do something in a hurry. There's more mistakes. Your fingers forget how to type.
You don't have enough time to check, properly, your work and do it right. The clock is ticking down. It's a good thing I don't have to save the world because, I'm sure all will be lost. I don't think I have time to finish wi

Coo Coo

10:00 AM Posted by Linda Henson , , , , , , , , ,
Last year I took my break at the outside table. When I sat down I heard a coo. Not a soft coo, but a hard coo. Like the pigeon was saying, get off my cloud!!! Every day when I took my break, he was there, giving me the evil eye. I wouldn't budge. I had a right to be there and there I would be. When the weather turned cold I took my break inside. This year when the weather warmed up again I went back out and he was there. The fight was on. So be it. I will not be moved. I would win this. The next day I was ready to stand my ground, but he didn't coo. He wasn't alone. He had a girlfriend. He was sharing his space. Hostilities had ceased. Armistice had been declared. Peace was at hand. I'm going miss our little tussle, but I am always glad when someone finds love. It makes the world a better place. Bye.

Something To Say

I have to think of something to say, I told myself. Something interesting and perhaps provocative. I have to think hard. Should I talk about social justice. Naw, that's been done. How to turn the world up side down. The world's a globe. It turns up side down every twenty-four hours. How to make your life better. Read a good book. Spend time with family and friends. Have a laugh. Hit a baseball. Look at a lovely painting. Learn a few words of another language. Find pieces of joy no matter how bad things are. Ice cream is always good no matter the weather. Hot chocolate is always good late at night, but only in winter. Old movies are the best. Critics don't know everything. Tah tah for now.

Rule the world?

10:00 AM Posted by Linda Henson , , , , , , , , , ,
From Gilligan's Island.
Villain: "Mr. Howell, how would you like to rule the world?"
Howell: "Rule it? I'd rather buy it and hire someone to run it."
Mr. Howell has it right. There is nothing wrong in being rich or even fabulously wealthy, but some want to grab all they can until they have more than they or their great, great, great, grandchildren can spend. Having it all would be nice, but why do you want more?

I Hear It

10:50 PM Posted by Linda Henson , , , , , , , ,
Every once in a while, my two year old nephew would put his hand to his ear and say,"I hear it."

There was one day I didn't know what he was talking about.  He looked up into the sky, amazed.  I realized he had heard a plane I didn't hear or rather, I heard it, but didn't pay attention to it because they are so common place.

And the birds. I realized he heard the birds outside my apartment. The ones I stopped listening to years ago but, for a two year old, everything is new and awesome.

I need to take a moment to rediscover our world, so I can say, "I hear it."
